With the founding of Solid-Bau in 2012, Edin Osmanagic started his own business. In the meantime he has engaged two additional drywall builders. Nonetheless he continues to work on construction sites himself on a daily basis and as a result, maintains a close relationship to the business. The tasks in interior construction are multifarious: prefabricated walls, suspended ceilings, linings, flooring systems and built-in fixtures.
At the time Edin was completing his apprenticeship as a plasterer and drywall builder in 1998, a lot was still being done using the measuring tape – an arduous process. Triangles had to be painstakingly calculated according to Pythagoras in the aspect ratios 3, 4 and 5. Two persons were fully occupied for up to 4 or 5 days in order to prepare the elevation of a residential complex with 20 units.
"Thanks to the multi-line laser Lino L4P1 and the laser distance meter DISTO D2 everything has become more efficient these days," says Edin, "We now only need two days for two persons to do the same work." Thus time and cost savings amount to more than 50 %.
Currently Edin is working together with his two employees on a new-build project in Lindau on Lake Constance comprising two large residential buildings. Their task is to erect stud walling with a total area of 1200 m2. In addition 60 m2 of duct lining and 100 steel door frames for the apartment doors are included.
For the wall construction the desired distance to the wall is first measured with the Leica DISTO D2 and marked using a marker. Next the Lino L4P1 with the plumb laser point is positioned exactly over the reference mark and the vertical laser line aligned with the setscrew to an accuracy of a millimetre. A chalk line is then used to mark the floor and ceiling. Subsequently the frame sections can be fixed in place and the plasterboard as well as insulation fitted.
"Personally what I like best is the setscrew. It hasn't any dead spot. If one wants to correct the laser line to the left or right it acts immediately and flawlessly”, says Edin with great enthusiasm.
Furthermore the Lino L4P1 excels with the visibility of its laser lines which is excellent even when the construction site is in bright daylight. Moreover, thanks to the lithium-ion storage battery the Lino L4P1 can be operated for up to 24 hours.
Edin uses the Leica DISTO D2 predominantly for taking measurements. As a result, measuring areas and running metres can be done in next to no time. Other functions are just as easy to use. Should the client want additional fixtures which are not included in the plans, remeasuring can be made with the Leica DISTO and immediately included in the final calculation or measurements can be taken from a house and the required amounts of material determined. By this means it is possible to conduct initial negotiations on a verified basis. This used to be more tedious and time-consuming using a folding rule.
During his years of experience Edin had already worked with several different lasers before he came across the Leica Geosystems brand. Today he is committed to the Leica L4P1, because working with it is a lot easier, more efficient, more accurate and faster. Particularly in the construction industry price erosion has been extremely high in recent years. Hence efficiency tops the list of requirements for maintaining a competitive edge.
