BLK360 & NASA: Scanning Spacecraft for Moon and Mars Expeditions

By lindsay.walker

Scott Cohen of ABG Tag and Traq is a government contractor for NASA, and he uses a Leica BLK360 imaging laser scanner and Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 PLUS software to create highly accurate CAD models of spaceships. These models include newer spacecraft intended for future NASA expeditions to the Moon and Mars, and the BLK360’s portability, accuracy, and range is perfect for Cohen’s projects with NASA. Cohen builds 3D models of spacecraft exteriors to assist moving them around inside a high bay at Johnson Space Center, and he also creates highly accurate 3D models of spacecraft interiors for installing ABG’s AllTraq nano receiver units within spacecraft. The goal is for astronauts to wear an AllTraq device while working and living within spacecraft so that NASA can precisely track their movements and monitor their statuses in real-time.
