INTERGEO is the world's leading expo and conference platform for geoinformation, geodata and future-oriented applications, and it went all-virtual for this year’s conference. One of the major topics was the development of smart cities, smart mapping, digital construction technology and developments in BIM, and cloud computing and AI as it relates to these fields. Hexagon GeoCloud fit in perfectly—across five presentations, INTERGEO attendees got a clear and thorough look at the spatial data visualization platform and how it can help transform the way we live in the future.
Introduction to Hexagon GeoCloud
Hexagon GeoCloud is a cloud-based platform for visualizing 3D models within the context of real-world 3D city meshes created from precise geospatial data, and at INTERGEO 2020, Hexagon showed the world what’s new with that platform. Product Manager Pascal Strupler introduced the platform, including updates and new features, and other platform collaborators introduced various parts of Hexagon GeoCloud and how it works—including UAV workflows and how you can upload your own data to Hexagon GeoCloud.
Hexagon GeoCloud & the Hexagon Content Program
From the Hexagon Content Program, VP of Software Development Belai Beshah explained how four petabytes of spatial data and imagery make up the basis of Hexagon GeoCloud—Hexagon's own content contributions to the platform. He explains how Hexagon GeoCloud works with the Hexagon Content Program to place real-world data within Hexagon GeoCloud. The platform also provides the delivery of precise geospatial data for professionals via a data licensing model.
Hexagon GeoCloud for Reality Capture
BLK technical specialist Andy Fontana reviewed how you can upload your own data to Hexagon GeoCloud and share your work with others. He covered uploading point clouds from reality capture devices like the BLK360 and BLK2GO and sharing your work with others, which is one of the greatest benefits of Hexagon GeoCloud—the ability to visualize and work virtually so that project stakeholders are always on the same page.
Hexagon GeoCloud & AI Machine Learning
In terms of AI, Martina Bekrova, Machine Learning Engineer at Melown Technologies, showed how AI and machine learning for spatial recognition works within Hexagon GeoCloud, including semantic segmentation and feature extraction. This enables Hexagon GeoCloud to automatically classify certain types of objects, including buildings and trees, which is a big step forward for smart city technology.
Create your Own Digital Reality with Hexagon GeoCloud
Building off of Martina’s contributions, Ladislav Horky, Operations Manager at Melown Technologies, explained one of the key upcoming features for Hexagon GeoCloud in his 2020 Intergeo presentation: A Complete Workflow for UAV Data. He showed attendees how Hexagon GeoCloud users can upload UAV imagery to the web and process in the cloud to create a photorealistic 3D mesh. He then explained georeferencing the mesh and achieving full semantic understanding of the scene through AI so that users can make the most of their 3D data.
We were happy to participate in INTERGEO 2020 Digital and show the world how Hexagon GeoCloud is growing and developing. Stay tuned for further updates from the Hexagon GeoCloud team!
