Leica RTC360

Leica RTC360

A portable, automated and efficient 3D laser scanner optimized to speed up data capture on site.

Speed and Efficiency:

The Leica RTC360 laser scanner significantly enhances the speed of 3D reality capture, reaching a measuring rate of up to 2 million points per second and creating detailed 3D point clouds in under two minutes. With automated, targetless field registration powered by VIS technology, it efficiently transfers data from the field to the office, minimizing time spent on-site and maximizing productivity. Data quality and a fast workflow have made it a favorite for larger jobs.

Double Scan

The bigger the job, the more often people and machines are moving through it.

Workers, pedestrians, machinery, cars -- moving things in the scanner's field of view create ghost points that need to be removed in post.

When set to Double Scan, the RTC360 takes two passes, compares the data from each to detect the moving objects, removes them, and then reduces the data to a single scan.

Virtual Inertial System (VIS)

VIS combines IMU data and live video to record where it is and how its position changes from one setup to the next, then automatically pre-registers a point cloud as it is captured.

In Leica Cyclone FIELD, the operator can view the point cloud to verify coverage, avoiding time wasters like over-scanning or having to make a return trip. Back at the office, start inspecting and sdjusting a pre-registered point cloud instead of assembling it one setup at a time.

RTC360 vs. RTC360 LT: What’s the difference?

1. The RTC360 features the Virtual Inertial System (VIS) technology while the RTC360 LT does not.

This is visible on the outside of the scanners: The RTC360 has 5 video cameras that work with an an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to provide VIS with the positioning data it needs to work to automatically pre-register scans in the field with Leica Cyclone FIELD 360. Follow the adjacent video for more information on VIS technology.

2. The RTC360 scans at a rate of 2 million point per second (pps) while the RTC360 LT scans at 1 million pps.

The difference is a minute per setup. If you are doing 60 or more, you will be glad for the hours of your life that the RTC360 gives back to you. If your typical job requires fewer setups, a million points per second is all you need.

I was excited to see the RTC when it was released. That excitement was not only for the new scanner but to see what the competition would do to make something even better. A lot of time has passed, and I have to say I am still waiting to see something better....As far as I am concerned, Leica still has the best laser scanner on the market!
