DISTO Smart Horizontal

A laser beam is perfectly straight by definition, making it more accurate than a tape measure. That is also why a laser measurement taken at an angle returns a longer value: An angled line to a plane is longer than a level one. More often than not, this level horizontal distance is the measurement you need.

This fact of geometry can be a problem on active sites where stacks of materials, machinery or other obstacles prevent a level horizontal measurement. The longer the measurement, the greater the error.

In Smart Horizontal mode, DISTOs use the reading from an angle sensor to correct a measurement taken at an angle. The result is an accurate level measurement even if you have to aim over obstacles on the job site.

Volume

In area mode, the DISTO determines the area of a rectangular or square space in two measurements. Volume mode adds a third vertical measurement to calculate the volume of a space.

In Min/Max mode, you "sweep" the laser point into a corner. The longest measurement is recorded. Very useful for accurate diagonal room or window/door measurements.

It's not always as simple as taking one shot to get the measurement you need. Sometimes you need to add multiple shots together, or subtract a negative space from a measurement. As you use the Add/Subtract function, the final result is displayed on the main line and the last measurement taken is shown above.

The Multi-functional endpiece folds out from the back of the DISTO and automatically sets the measuring point to either the rear of the DISTO or the tip of the extended endpiece.

This DISTO-exclusive feature ensures that the DISTO is measuring precisely from an outside corner (a very common use case). When fully extended, it is possible to measure from the back of openings as narrow as 20mm. Combined with Min/Max mode, there is no better method for determining the precise corner-to-corner measurement of a rough opening when installing windows or doors.

Use the Volume function to determine the volume of a cube within a space. The DISTO will prompt for 3 measurements: length, width, and height and then display the volume measurement.

The stake out function uses the continuous measurement mode to indicate where to place stakes along a stake-out line. Ideal for any situation where you need to place objects at a consistent interval. The display shows the distance to the next stake out point and the DISTO beeps as you approach it.

DISTO Painter Function

Take the guesswork out of buying paint or any wall covering.

The Painter Function walks you through the steps of combining multiple wall area measurements to determine the total surface area of all the walls in a room.

Store measurements and images with measurements associated with them.

DISTO IP65

The Ingress Protection (IP) rating is the protection level against dust and water. The first number indicates dust, and the second indicates water. An IP65 device is rated to be completely dust-tight (6) and protected against jets of water (5).

The Ingress Protection (IP) rating is the protection level against dust and water. The first number indicates dust, and the second indicates water. An IP54 device is rated to be protected against all dust contact (5) and protected against splashing water (4).

Take indirect height and width measurements using the Pythagorean Theorem.

The key is to make sure your second shot -- the "rectangular shot" -- is perpendicular to the point you are measuring, shown as the 90° angle in the images. The best way to ensure accuracy is to use a tripod and an adapter.

Set a timer to delay a measurement the same way you would with the shutter on a digital camera.

Chances are you will use some functions more than others.

Instead of opening the function menu and searching for the functions you use the most, you can link the buttons on either side of the ON/DIST button to your faviorite functions.

From then on, you just hit one of the buttons to activate your most-used features.

At max range most DISTO's exceed our ability to see the laser point, which makes it hard to take a measurement. Even at shorter distances in bright, outdoor conditions, it can be difficult to see the laser point. The solution is a 4x zoom Digital Pointfinder camera. Place the crosshairs on your measuring point and measure with confidence.

Point-to-Point (P2P) DISTOs are the only laser distance meters capable of taking measurements from a single, distant point.

This unique capability makes measuring hard-to-reach places easier, more efficient, and safer.

P2P can also be used to capture the measurements of complex shapes for export to CAD.

P2P functionality requires a tripod and a DST 360-X tripod adapter. The full P2P kit is available as a package (see below).

Measurements taken by Bluetooth-enabled DISTOs are useful for Building Information Modeling (BIM).

DISTO Inclination

A highly accurate 360° angle sensor provides the precise angle measurements that are needed for Smart Horizontal measurements, the level function,  height tracking, and measuring sloped objects.

The Trapezium Function is useful for determining the length and slope of a roof section, and the area it covers. The DISTO uses the its internal tilt sensor to calculate the angle and the distance between the shots, which means you can measure roofs accurately from the ground.

The simple area function is great when a room is a square or rectangle, but what if you have to determine the area of a room that has more than four corners? That is where the triangle function comes in. Divide the room into imaginary triangles, take three shots for each and then add them up. The DISTO will also tell you circumference and the angle of the triangle.

The big receiver lens and the module it is connected to can see a laser dot outside at distances of over 600 ft, depending on conditions.

Measure in Picture on DISTO

Measure in Picture (MIP) technology allows you to determine an object's width, height, surface area, or diameter within a picture taken by the pointfinder camera.

The Diameter function uses Measure in Picture (MIP) technology to determine the diameter of cylindrical objects, like tanks or silos. The display also provides circumference (top number) and circular area.

The Lithium Ion battery is recharged via a mini-USB. Plug it into the wall for fast charging, or plug it into a computer to charge and access the image gallery.

An onboard compass helps you determine which direction you are facing when taking measurements with this DISTO.

The dual lens digital camera employs a wide field lens and a 4x zoom lens to power Measure in Picture (MIP) technology.

Combining the photo with the data returned by the laser and the tilt sensor, the software uses the fixed focal lengths of the lenses to determine height, width, and area in MIP mode.

The unit stores images with measurements laid over them for recall on the device or to download later, which is useful for as-built measuring or Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Height Tracking uses the reading from the angle sensor to continuously solve for height. Engage the height tracking function and measure to the base of your target. As you tilt the DISTO up, the laser stays on and the display shows the height of the laser point as it moves higher.

This function requires a tripod such as our TRI 100.

DISTO Height Profile

This function helps you measure the height differences between 2 or more reference points. Each measurement is stored as a profile pair that references the measurement taken before it.

This function requires a tripod such as our TRI 100.

DISTO Level

The on-board tilt sensor in this DISTO can also be used as a leveling tool.

CAD

This DISTO can save all captured measurement points as a DXF file. You can then transfer the DXF file into CAD on your computer.

Simply measure the outline of an area – clockwise or counterclockwise – and immediately see the result on the display, no matter how complex the shape of an area is.

Area

In area mode, the DISTO determines the area of a rectangular or square space in two measurements.

The display automatically rotates in line with the orientation of the device; allowing you to easily read the screen from any angle.
