These Release Notes contain important information about the Leica BLK2GO new firmware version 2.0.3

This is a technical release that adds support for newer hardware revisions. Besides the added support for revised internal components, it is otherwise identical to 2.0.2. However, the new hardware revision is introduced with serial number 3631167. With this serial number and above, this firmware version or newer will be required. Earlier devices may be updated, but will see no benefit.

It is highly recommended to always use the latest version of the BLK2GO firmware and the BLK2GO Live app. For compatibility reasons, please use firmware version 2.0.2 with BLK2GO Live app version 1.2.5 (iOS) and 1.0 (Android) or later. There is no backward compatibility of BLK2GO firmware 2.0.2 with previous versions of Cyclone. For compatibility reasons, please use BLK2GO firmware version 2.0.2 with Cyclone REGISTER 360 v.2021 and Cyclone REGISTER 360 (BLK Edition) v.2021 or later.

WHAT'S NEW

  • Faster and more deterministic static initialisation. It is still recommended to firmly hold the BLK2GO on the table stand while initialising (yellow blinking).
  • Improved GrandSLAM tracking accuracy and robustness in low-feature environments.
  • Improved latency in the trajectory streaming to BLK2GO Live app at the beginning of a scan.

Important: There is no backward compatibility of BLK2GO firmware 2.0.1 with  previous versions  of  Cyclone. For compatibility reasons,  please  use BLK2GO firmware version  2.0.1  with  Cyclone REGISTER  360 v.2021  and Cyclone REGISTER 360 (BLK Edition) v.2021 or later.

BUG FIXES

  • Fix a LiDAR issue that happened when scanning outdoor in sunlight conditions that was causing the scan to stop. The system is now more resilient to sunlight.
  • Fix a rare issue which previously led to live companion app preview freezing, while scan continued without indication of issue.
  • Fix an issue where LED status on the BLK2GO was not in synch with the BLK2GO Live app during initialisation.
  • Improve battery detection.
  • General system stability improvements.

It is highly recommended to always use the latest version of the BLK2GO firmware, the BLK2GO Live app and Cyclone REGISTER 360 or Cyclone REGISTER 360 (BLK Edition) software. For compatibility reasons, please use firmware version 2.0.0 with BLK2GO Live app version 1.2.5 or later.

WHAT'S NEW

  • Significantly improved and more robust GrandSLAM algorithm.
    • The new GrandSLAM version improves the reliability and can handle a wider variety of scenarios.
    • In the new firmware version, the sensor will automatically adjust the SLAM methodology to meet the requirements of the surrounding environment. Default scanning mode uses GrandSLAM (the combination of Visual SLAM, LiDAR SLAM, and IMU).
    • Further significant improvements to precision and point cloud visualization from firmware version 2.0.0 will become available with the 2021 version of Cyclone REGISTER 360, Cyclone REGISTER 360 (BLK Edition), and Cyclone REGISTER. The 2021 release will take place in the coming weeks.
  • Improved temperature regulation control.
  • More detailed information for support and troubleshooting related to error codes.
  • Initialization timeout feature - if the BLK2GO is not stable and the initialization cannot be achieved, after 30 seconds the initialization will be stopped.
  • General system stability improvements.

BUG FIXES

  • Fix an issue that happened with the previous firmware versions 1.1.1 and 1.1.2 where older scans could not be deleted.
  • Fix scan duration issue. In some cases, scan duration was missing causing problems when importing the dataset in Cyclone software.
  • Fixed an issue with the panoramic cameras causing miscolored point clouds.

Firmware version 1.1.2 compared to version 1.1.1, does not contain any new feature.

  • Device general performance and stability improvements.
  • SLAM performance and stability improvements.
  • Static initialization improvement. This fixes known data quality issues that could occur after processing. It is still recommended to firmly hold the BLK2GO on the table stand while initializing (yellow blinking).
  • Slight increase of the fan speed to help reduce the device temperature. That leads to a slightly different noise level.

  • Improved the overall stability.
  • The scan number now increases after each new scan, and also after transfer and deleted from the BLK2GO internal storage. Only after a factory settings reset will the scan number counter be reset.

Important: Data captured using firmware version 1.0.7 requires processing with Leica Cyclone REGISTER 360 beta version 2.0.0 (build dev.r17218) or Cyclone Core beta version 9.5.1 (build7514) or later. Processing with older software versions might lead to inaccurate point cloud colorization.
